The Archives Office is set up under the Archives Act and is a part of the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office.
On our site you can find information about the policy and regulatory structures and framework for State and local government recordkeeping; the retention and disposal of government records; and facilities and services for public access and use of the State's archives. You might also find Tasmania's memory useful.
Our site also includes:
- the Tasmanian Archives Online database, which contains descriptive information about the State’s archives
- name indexes, which index the contents of specific archival records relating to people
- an index to our photographic holdings, which includes copies of the images
- a database providing descriptive information about our film and video holdings
Tasmania's convict records are part of the Memory of the World and can be viewed online
