Film, Video, and Audio Material - Copies and Services

Research and processing services

The film and video holdings of the Archives Office of Tasmania can be viewed, free of charge, in the search room if the material is available on DVD or VHS cassette. Access to other material may involve transfer costs; price on application. Similar conditions apply to audio items.

The selection of footage and other research and processing services are charged at $38.50 per hour or part thereof.

VHS & DVD copies for Tasmanian State government agencies or individual private use

Video and DVD reference copies of specific titles, completed compilations and footage are available for purchase. The following standard prices will apply for VHS or DVD copies of material available on video or digital tape masters, where specific titles are contained on the same master tape. Feature films and compilations published by the Archives Office have separate prices

Duration first copy 2nd and 3rd copies 4 or more copies
up to 30 mins $44 $39.60 $33
up to 60 mins $55 $49.50 $39.60
up to 90 mins $66 $59.40 $49.50
up to 180 mins $99 $89.10 $73.70

Where titles are on different master tapes, a charge of $5.50 per additional title will be added to the duration based charge (eg to obtain reference copies of two titles, each of 25 minutes duration which are on different master tapes would cost $60.50, that is $55 because the total duration is 50 minutes plus $5.50 as the second title is contained on a different master tape from the first).

VHS and DVD copies for corporate use

The basic charge for the use of productions for corporate training is $90.00 per DVD/VHS but requests should be made in writing and may be negotiable in the light of the particular circumstances and scale of the proposed use.

Audio copies for Tasmanian State government agencies or individual private use

Copied onto tape cassettes or CDs. $16.50 for up to 90 minutes; $5.50 for each additional 90 minutes or part thereof. Where "titles" are on different master tapes, a charge of $5.50 per additional "title" will be added to the duration based charge.

Video & digital tape dubbing

The following in-house transfers are available. If the material is not available in the format or the quality required, external transfer costs will be charged to the client. In-house transfer and dubbing of sub-masters required for external production facilities will also be recharged.

Rates per hour (pro-rata), excluding stock costs - minimum charge of $49.50. Charges for stock used for dubbing are based on purchase price and will be subject to change without notice.
