Films and Videos

Included in the holdings of the Archives Office are a great many films and videos produced by or for Tasmanian government organisations and individuals. The two major sources for this material are the Department of Film Production and its successor, the Tasmanian Film Corporation, which existed until the early 1980s. Items from government sources includes general film footage of Tasmanian places and events, training films, promotional/documentary material and some cinema release feature films. Other material has been deposited in the Archives Office by private citizens and includes amateur productions and documentaries, and 'home movies' showing life, events, and places in Tasmania.

The film and video holdings range from the early 1900s to the 1990s.

Some feature films are also available for general purchase as are compilations of historical material produced occasionally by the Archives Office.
