Film, Video, and Audio Material - Copies and ServicesResearch and processing servicesThe film and video holdings of the Archives Office of Tasmania can be viewed, free of charge, in the search room if the material is available on DVD or VHS cassette. Access to other material may involve transfer costs; price on application. Similar conditions apply to audio items. The selection of footage and other research and processing services are charged at $38.50 per hour or part thereof. VHS & DVD copies for Tasmanian State government agencies or individual private use Video and DVD reference copies of specific titles, completed compilations and footage are available for purchase. The following standard prices will apply for VHS or DVD copies of material available on video or digital tape masters, where specific titles are contained on the same master tape. Feature films and compilations published by the Archives Office have separate prices
Where titles are on different master tapes, a charge of $5.50 per additional title will be added to the duration based charge (eg to obtain reference copies of two titles, each of 25 minutes duration which are on different master tapes would cost $60.50, that is $55 because the total duration is 50 minutes plus $5.50 as the second title is contained on a different master tape from the first). VHS and DVD copies for corporate use The basic charge for the use of productions for corporate training is $90.00 per DVD/VHS but requests should be made in writing and may be negotiable in the light of the particular circumstances and scale of the proposed use. Audio copies for Tasmanian State government agencies or individual private use Copied onto tape cassettes or CDs. $16.50 for up to 90 minutes; $5.50 for each additional 90 minutes or part thereof. Where "titles" are on different master tapes, a charge of $5.50 per additional "title" will be added to the duration based charge. Video & digital tape dubbing The following in-house transfers are available. If the material is not available in the format or the quality required, external transfer costs will be charged to the client. In-house transfer and dubbing of sub-masters required for external production facilities will also be recharged. Rates per hour (pro-rata), excluding stock costs - minimum charge of $49.50. Charges for stock used for dubbing are based on purchase price and will be subject to change without notice.
Footage charges for licensed use of film and videoThe following charges apply to licensed use of film and video footage in new productions. A discount of 25% applies after one minute: 50% after three minutes. In some cases rights to non-government film may be retained by the original owner/depositor. In these instances the client will need to negotiate directly with the depositor. Any fees and conditions imposed by the depositor will be in addition to those required by the Archives Office identified below. Rates apply per second per medium
Conditions for film and video copies 1. A purchase order, fax or letter is required before research is undertaken or material supplied. 2. Where no masters or duping material exists, mastering costs are borne by the client. Masters are made in whole reel units only, remain the property of the Archives Office and must be returned to the Archives Office at the client’s cost. 3. Appropriate acknowledgment must be given in the credits of any production using material held by the Archives Office of Tasmania. 4. The provision of material is subject to the requirements of copyright law and contractual arrangements. 5. All freight charges for material are to be borne by the client. 6. Where masters or viewing copies are damaged or lost, replacement costs and service fees will be charged to the client. Government ServicesTemporary Records Storage Service (availability may be limited)The following fees may be applied to the temporary storage of records:
Destruction of sentenced temporary records stored by the Archives Office - $2.20 per standard Archives Office box ($11 per metre) "Master microfilm " storage is also available - $2.75 per year for 16mm film; $5.50 per year for 35mm film.
