Government recordkeeping - overviewThe Archives Office (through the statutory position of State Archivist) regulates the preservation and eventual destruction or retention of State and local government records in Tasmania, in accordance with the provisions of the Archives Act 1983, to ensure that records of continuing value to the public and the government are accessible for appropriate lengths of time. The Office also provides a number of services to government organisations, both directly and to assist them in complying with their responsibilities and obligations under this Act.
