Guides to records and their use

A number of guides to various parts of the Archives Office's holdings have been produced and are available on this website. These are listed below.

Guide to the Public Records of Tasmania (Sections 1 to 4).
These four volumes, dealing with records of particular government agencies, were published by the Archives Office during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

Genealogical Resources
Useful Sources For Genealogical Research. This is an expanded version with added descriptive text, of Brief Guide 21 and describes a range of records across many government functions that provide information about individuals. 

Brief Guides
The brief guide sequence contains short descriptive listings of some of the major and most useful series of records which are relevant to a particular topic and other summary information about the Archives Office's services and facilities.

List of church registersThis lists the various registers of baptisms, church marriages, and burials held in the Archives Office. These are available for public access for researchers visiting our reading room in person, but are not indexed and cannot be searched by our staff
